Prussian cornets were invented in 1833 by adding valves to Prussian signal horns with a conical bell. Leschhorn’s instrument represents the newer type, with rotary valves (instead of Berlin valves) and a slightly tapering bell. Prussian cornets, popular in northern Germany, were later replaced by fluegel horns.
