Slide Trumpet in E
Köhler & Son
1881–90 · Brass · Musical Instruments

Adding a slide to a trumpet expanded its scale and made it a semichromatic instrument. A set of interchangeable crooks was used to pitch the instrument in different keys. Although the valve was first successfully utilized in 1814, the slide trumpet remained popular in Britain and France throughout much of the nineteenth century.
