This parasol is an example of the typical decorative technique of the late nineteenth century which was applying an ombré dye to the fabric. The startling color contrast in the lining is carried out on the exterior details, giving an aesthetic integrity to the piece. Another novelty is the molding of the wood handle into a knot which is accomplished by softening the wood through steaming.
