Parasol
Unknown
1895–1905 · silk, cotton, wood, metal, glass · Costume Institute

This parasol is beautiful and of the highest quality, as great attention was paid to every detail. The vulnerable glass handle seems impractical but emphasizes the luxury element of parasols of this period. It is very possible that the vivid color of the handle was chosen to complement a certain ensemble.
