The Half and The Whole (pair of vases)
Louis Marc Emmanuel Solon|Minton(s)
1895–1899 · Bone china with pâte-sur-pâte decoration and gilding · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

Hearts as symbols of love were not a common feature of neoclassical decoration on eighteenth-century ceramics. By contrast, Solon frequently adopted the motif alongside cupid figures. Vases such as this pair became illustrations of Victorian sentiment.
