Pair of Bulb Vases
Alboin Birks|Minton(s)
1889 · Pâte-sur-pâte on bone china with gilding · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

This pair of vases by Mintons are based on a model developed at Sèvres in the eighteenth century. Their manufacture just before the turn of the twentieth century points to Victorian England’s fascination with the revival of historical styles such as the French Rococo, a topic studied by the early feminist author Emilia Dilke.
