Book of macaronic verse. In this instance, the macaronica are burlesque poems consisting of jumbled vernacular French, Italian, and Latin jargon, including Baldo, the popular and frequently censored poem by Teofilo Folengo that later influenced Rabelais. The first poem is by Docteur (Louis) Martin, the second by Remy Belleau, and the third by Girolamo Folengo. Nineteenth-century fine binding by Robert Joly (1878–1934); full green-blue morocco binding, gold-tooled on both covers and spine, red and white silk single-embroidered end bands. Woodcuts: device, initials, head- and tail-pieces.
