2 volumes. Prefixed to v.1 is the dedication; Præfatio Romanæ editionis ann. 1592; and decree of Council of Trent. Text in double columns, with chapter headings and marginal references. v.1, Genesis to Ecclesiastes; v.2, Isaiah to Revelation, followed by Ad sapientiam ... exhortatio; Jerome's prologues, and prefaces; Index testimoniorum; and Hebraïcorum, Chaldæorum, Græcorumque nominum interpretatio. Contemporary green morocco binding with arms of the book’s former owner, Charles-Philippe de France (1757-1836), comte d’Artois, later Charles X, with gilt ornamental leafy border and fleurons in all four corners; all edges gilt; red endleaves. Providing the international common medium of scripture, the Vulgate Bible continued to be regarded as the standard scholarly Bible throughout most of the seventeenth century.
