Dress

ca. 1855 · wool, silk · Costume Institute

This well-made dress has a distinctly militaristic appearance. More specifically, it refers to the decorative front of the Hussar uniforms, but is at the same time a very feminine dress. The military influence, especially in the second half of the nineteenth century in women's dress is very prominent.
