Evening ensemble
Hanae Mori
1966–69 · silk · Costume Institute

This evening ensemble is an early example of Hanae Mori's work. Here she uses two types of fabric printed with the same motif to create a shadow effect. The cape sleeves are reminiscent of the extended sleeves of the furisode, a formal kimono style worn by young, unmarried women.
