Alice Pollock, a designer working in London, was among the vanguard for the thriving boutique culture of the 1960s and ‘70s. She designed and retailed a range of clothing that channeled the expressive and individualistic character of the period, founding a variety of influential stores that included Quorum (co-owned with Ossie Clark), Over the Rainbow, Circus, and Flip. This boldly patterned jacket features an engineered print of feather and chevron motifs that are likely inspired by Native American culture and vintage textile designs from the Wiener Werkstätte, echoing the contemporaneous interests in pattern, decoration, and global influences in dress. The flowing fashions of the late 1960s and 1970s frequently provided an exquisite canvas to display the colorful and highly imaginative print designs that flourished throughout the period.
