In the early 1960s, the status of the hat as a fashion necessity plummeted. As the youthful zeitgeist increasingly eschewed fussy, cumbersome, or matronly styles, milliners turned to simplified forms and vibrant, playful materials to appeal to a modern sensibility. This simple, flat-topped, flared shape was one of the basic day wear hat styles in the 1960s. The bold, eye-catching zebra pattering gives the hat a "mod" look evocative of its era. The pattern is matched on the interior and exterior of hat, a feature exemplary of a well made hat.
