Hat
Unknown
1810–15 · cotton, silk, jet · Costume Institute

This shape of hat was worn both with riding habits of the period and as fashionable daywear. The buttons on the sides of the brim of this one probably held cords or ties to keep the hat from flying off during a gallop.
