Wolgang Rössler is recognized as the most important independent decorator of German faience active in Nuremberg. He specialized in schwarzlot, a black and white decoration technique that drew upon Rössler’s parallel work as a copper engraver. His talents are evident in the complexity of the battle scene, with plumes of smoke created by the warring figures on horseback.
