Foot stool (bout de pied)
Unknown
ca. 1780–85 · Carved and gilded beechwood, covered in silk · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

French seat furniture was often made in sets consisting of matching arm and side chairs, settees, bergères, stools, as well as a footstool and fire screen. The carving of the seat rails and the multi-color gilding of this particular footstool suggest that it was once part of an important set.
