二代田邊竹雲斎造 牡丹花籃	|Prosperous Peony Basket (Botan hanakago) — Tanabe Chikuunsai II

Celebrated for his superb technique, which followed the style established by his father, Tanabe Chikuunsai II participated in the major government-sponsored exhibitions as early as 1931. The Sakai-based artist refreshed the visual vocabulary of such traditional forms as flower baskets and fruit trays. He later became a leading figure of the postwar period and was honored with the Special Recognition Award (Tokusen) at the 1952 Nitten exhibition.
