Suzuki Gorō

Suzuki’s work is inspired by Momoyama period (1573–1615) Oribe ware. On this two-tiered food box, he used the traditional dark brown and bright green Oribe glazes to depict whimsical motifs of crows, lamps, nude women, geometric patterns, and circular forms. Suzuki applied gold lacquer to mend cracks on the inside of the box in the kintsugi tradition of highlighting repairs on tea bowls rather than disguising them.
