Oboe — Jacob Anthony

Jacob Anthony was born in Germany in 1736 and emigrated to the United States, where he established his own shop in the 1760s. Like many other musical instrument manufacturers, Anthony used his skills to produce a variety of products. He is listed in Philadelphia directories as a musical instrument maker and a wood turner. This oboe is typical of a German-made instrument from the eighteenth century and one of the earliest known oboes to have been made in the United States.
