Oboe
Johann Heinrich Grenser
ca. 1806–13 · Boxwood, brass · Musical Instruments

The loud hautboy of the Baroque period developed into the oboe preferred in the Classical orchestra, which was prized for its plaintive expressiveness. The additional keys later added to this example are modifications to help it keep pace with the drastic changes that the oboe underwent during the nineteenth century.
