清/現代 曾熙 管領春風圖 軸|Herald of the Spring Breeze
Zeng Xi
dated 1929 · Hanging scroll; ink and color on paper · Asian Art

A fluid surge of ink traces the line of sap in a flowering branch. Zeng's inscription, written in a style that conveys his study of Han clerical script, notes the popularity of plum painting during the Qianlong era (1736–95), but identifies Jin Nong's (1687–1764) plum style as his favorite. Zeng Xi's freely brushed branch in dilute ink expresses his admiration of Jin Nong through emulation.
