Frequently called "hair rings" these ornaments were attached to large, opulent headdresses worn by Amazigh (Berber) women in Morocco. Such ornaments are especially known from the region of Tiznit, in the south. This example has traces of green, yellow, and red enamel, which once would have been a bold polychrome decoration. Techniques of enamel work were brought to Morocco by craftsmen from nearby Islamic Spain who were fleeing persecution from Christians.
