Excavations at Nishapur and Samarqand produced a wide range of ceramic finds; among these was a group of earthenware vessels covered in white and polychrome slip. This shallow bowl is decorated with two symmetrically-arranged designs of red and brown slip that are joined by a trail of dots. Because of close ties between Nishapur and Samarqand during the Samanid period, scholars have been unable to identify the precise origin of this bowl.
