Luster Bowl with Two Running Hares

The playful image of two running hares recalls the ubiquitous three-hare motifs found from Central Asia to Western Europe in the medieval period, although in this iteration the animals’ ears do not intersect. The link with Late Antique motifs, especially Sogdian and Sasanian ones, is however indicated by the shape of the leaves or branches that the hares hold in their mouths.
