Jewelry in India was not restricted to wealthy members of society, but rather produced with varying materials to appeal to a range of economic classes. This pair of armlets, or bazubands, were made with a dark metal alloy, embellished with beige, red, magenta, and lime-green colored threads, and would have been owned by someone with modest means. The metal has been incised and decorated with floral forms, which are articulated, allowing for the movement of the wearer. Such jewels were worn on the upper bicep, and the metal and polychrome fabric tassels would have embellished the back of the arm.
