Bowl with Repeating Inscription, "Oh, Abundant!"
Unknown
late 9th century · Earthenware; white slip with black slip decoration under transparent glaze · Islamic Art

The tadpole-like design in the center is sometimes doubled, resembling a yang-yin motif. Seldom does a bowl of such high quality have a repeating inscription. Although the decipherment is uncertain it may exclaim: "O abundant!" (lit., "O Milk-filled!").
