Cup
Louis C. Tiffany|Tiffany Studios
ca. 1905 · Silver, glass · The American Wing

Louis Tiffany rarely worked in silver, the medium for which his father's firm is famous. The three-handled cup, or tyg, is a rare example marked by Tiffany Studios and presumably designed by Louis. The form evokes medieval metalwork but has been transformed by the addition of handles in the shape of animal bones. The applied jewel-like glass decoration is reminiscent of Native American or Mexican work in silver and turquoise.
