Amulet cases worn as jewelry have a long history around the Mediterranean world. This ornamented gold case was found at a village called Reiny near Nazareth. Objects such as this were talismanic, and usually contained rolled up prayers or holy verses which were inscribed on paper. They are usually worn as a pendant suspended from a necklace, sometimes in multiples.
