The scene shown is from Act II, Scene 5 of E.E. Cummings' 'HIM' (New York, 1927). A small chorus sings the folk song 'Frankie and Johnnie' on the tiny stage of the Provincetown Players Theatre in MacDougall Street. Sloan kept a program from the production he saw in his diary.
