Arthur Little

Born and raised in Boston, Little's work is associated with the Colonial Revival style of architecture. Grasshead was one of two familly buildings that that he designed, built on Little Point, Swampscott, between 1880 and 1882. It was his first design to be published in an American periodical, appearing in "The American Architect and Building News" (August 19, 1882). Vincent Scully suggests that it is resembles "a giant colonial farmhouse of the salt-box type." The inclusion of the lighthouse form likely was suggested by the building's location.
