The Rescue I
Pablo Picasso|Jacques Frélaut|Galerie Louise Leiris
1932, printed 1961 · Etching · Drawings and Prints

Three etchings in the bathers series depict the rescue of a drowning swimmer, two of which are on view here. Picasso's mistress at that time, Marie-Thérèse Walter, appears repeatedly - and in multiple roles - in all three compositions: she is the victim, the rescuer, and the onlooker.
