Wheellock Rifle Made for Emperor Leopold I — Johann Michael Maucher|I. C. Schefl

One of Maucher's greatest masterpieces, the stock is delicately worked in low relief and decorated with inset panels of ivory. The largest panel, on the lid of the patchbox, depicts the goddess Fortuna or the Birth of Venus. In his signature on the stock, Maucher identifies himself as a "sculptor and stock carver."
