Variant of a Greek bronze statue of the late 5th century B.C. The so-called Narcissus was one of the most popular Greek statues copied in the Roman period; over forty examples are known today. Here, the pose has been reversed, perhaps because the work was to be shown in a decorative setting as a mirror image with another copy.
