Among the established types of Tarentine terracottas is that of the mounted horseman. In this example, he is nude, carries a small round shield, and wears an elaborate headdress as is often found on the equally characteristic type of the reclining banqueter. The identities of both the horsemen and the banqueters remain unclear, as does the possibility of a connection between the two.
