Marble portrait of a man
Unknown
first half of the 3rd century CE · Marble · Greek and Roman Art

In this masterful portrait of a man with a deep frown and sunken cheeks, the roughly chiseled hair and beard contrast with the highly polished face. The portrait was probably set into a bust, as the underside of the neck is carefully tooled.
