Casket with scenes of Genesis
Suzanne de Court|Etienne Delaune
first quarter 17th century · Painted enamel on copper, partly gilt; silver mounts · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

Decorated with stories from Genesis derived from prints by Étienne Delaune (1518–1583), this casket may have been used for jewelry. It is signed by Susanne de Court, the only known female enameler in Limoges. She created energetic and expressive, albeit somewhat awkward, figures in wonderful translucent colors.
