Schreckhorn, Eismeer (from "Splendid Mountain Watercolours" Sketchbook) — John Singer Sargent

The Schreckhorn is one of the three major peaks near Grindelwald, Switzerland, a town Sargent visited at the end of August after passing the month in nearby Mürren. One of the prime scenic attractions of the area is the glaciers that lie between the mountains. Here Sargent depicted a picturesque vista of the Schreckhorn (center) and the Eismeer ("ice sea"). This sheet comes from the Splendid Mountain Watercolours Sketchbook.
