Arab Woman — John Singer Sargent

Sargent encountered veiled women on several occasions during his travels. He probably painted this vibrant watercolor during a trip to the Middle East, either in 1890–91, when he went to Egypt, Greece, and Turkey, or in 1905–6, while visiting Syria and Palestine.
