Holding a scepter and wearing a cloak embellished with with fleur-de-lis, the seated female figure of the marble and gilt-bronze clock symbolizes France. In her left hand she supports an oval bas-relief of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France. The backplate of the movement is signed by Martin, for Jean Martin a clockmaker who was active in Paris from 1737 and became a master in 1746.
