Adam Duncan (1731–1804) entered the navy at the age of fifteen, was a life-long naval officer, promoted admiral in 1795. After the victory at Camperdown against the Dutch fleet he was raised to the peerage as Baron Duncan of Lundie and Viscount Duncan of Camperdown.
