Matthäus Bair
late 16th century · Gilded silver · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

Renowned Augsburg master Matthäus Bair was a leading Renaissance goldsmith, and many of his intriguing works can be found in treasuries and museums worldwide. The Hungarian use of the “perspiration pattern” is slightly different but equally successful to Bair’s and that of other goldsmiths from major European centers.
