Man Carrying a Child on His Shoulder — Barthélemy Prieur

The subject is plausibly explained as Orion, the blind titan of myth, whose gaze is directed by the boy Cedalion to the rising sun, which will restore his sight (as in the painting by Nicolas Poussin in our European Paintings galleries). This group is solid cast; the finest example is in the Huntington Library, San Marino, California.
