Candlestick
Unknown
16th century · Brass, inlaid with silver · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

Both the bulbous profile and assembly of its parts distinguish this European candlestick from its smaller Islamic models. Its surface ornamentation—the scrolling stems, rhomboid knots, quatrefoils, and strapwork panels—however, is similar to Islamic metalwork, especially the work of Mahmud al-Kurdi.
