Jacob Mores

The sides of this casket are divided by rounded arches resting on pilasters, alternating with silver reliefs depicting the Passion of Christ. The figures of the Virgin, Christ, and the twelve apostles are shown against the pilasters. The lid represents the Resurrection. The interior is richly decorated with strapwork and Moresque decoration. This casket or one of the several related examples is recorded in a drawing by the Hamburg goldsmith Jacob Mores (1540–ca. 1612).
