Apollo and Daphne — Andrea Brustolon

One relief shows Cupid leading Apollo by the hand in pursuit of Daphne, who is being transformed into a laurel tree. The other (see 17.190.484) portrays Venus arriving at Vulcan's forge in her dove-drawn chariot. Although now known to be Italian, these reliefs were once considered Flemish, a confusion that underscores the spread of Late Baroque style.
