Crucifix
Unknown
18th century · Figure and scroll: ivory; cross: wood, painted black; nails: iron · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

Christ is shown as if speaking his last words to God the Father. The figure is distinguished by the expressive features, disproportionately large head, and lavish treatment of the hair. The schematically drawn body and rigid, unmodulated loincloth are not particularly well carved.
