Queen Anne (r. 1702–14) guinea
Unknown
1710 · Gold · European Sculpture and Decorative Arts

This Queen from the very beginning of her reign, restored by statute the standard of the coinage which had been woefully debased by her predecessors, William III and Mary; and her coins continued to the end of the reign to be famous for their beauty and fineness. The Museum example has been injured by clumsy efforts to attach it to some object.
