Purchased from a New Bond Street retailer, this robe is a handsome example of high quality men's dressing wear. The paisley pattern, popularized during the eighteenth century, remained fashionable even after the Kashmir shawls on which the design was originally found, did not. The pattern became associated with luxury items, such as fine men's accessories and silk garments. Adding interest to this piece is the knitted belt, an unusual feature, and the refined cord edges.
