Following his first successful "Trapèze" collection for Dior in 1958, Yves Saint Laurent remained committed to promoting the new shape for garments the following year. With this suit, Saint Laurent shows his versatility as a designer. When the jacket and skirt are worn together, the suit resembles classic Dior creations from the 1950s. Pairing the overblouse with the skirt, however, brings the ensemble up to date; the waist is no longer nipped and the single button serves as a decorative focal point. The name of the model, "Today", seems fitting for an ensemble that allows for the wearer to shift from one look to another quickly and easily.
