The boot, which had slipped out of fashion in the 1920s, returned as an important fashion style in the early 1960s. The short skirts of the second half of the 1960s, and later hot pants, encouraged boot wearing. The leg of the boot tended to be closely contoured in the 1960s, and various forms of fitting were used to achieve this, whether by cut, stretch fabrication, or fastening. Laced boots were enjoying a strong period by the late 1960s, and had the added appeal of reflecting both historic and "ethnic" styles which figured prominently in contemporary fashion. This example shows the taste for somewhat delicate and light styles of the period, and the ethnic influence in ghillie form of lacing.
