Although shoes were gradually gaining acceptance for street wear by the turn of the 20th century, boots remained the domaint daywear style until the 1920s. While women's street shoes of the time were strongly mannish in their styling, higher heels and greater latitude in materials distinguished them from their masucline counterparts. This high quality and very modish example in eye-catching bronze leather with contrasting buttons features the high and slightly knobby toe distinctive to shoes of the time.
